Gerald works for Cameco at the Key Lake mine as a production foreman.
As a young man just out of school, he took a diamond drilling course and went to work as a helper for two years, but this was only seasonal work, so he took another course as a process operator.
The first mine he worked at was the Star Lake gold mine, the same mill processed the Jasper Gold project, after this he worked at the Seabee mine for two years before moving on to the Contact Lake gold mine, from there Gerald went to work overseas at the Kumtor gold project for one year.
Gerald then started a business venture opening up a confectionery at his home community, his venture went well for two years, but he missed the life style of going to work and having a week off in between. Gerald rejoined Cameco in 2002 as a process helper from there he worked his way up to be one of the production foreman.
On his weeks off Gerald enjoys time with his family, his hobbies include trapping, fishing, hunting, he also competes in traditional Competitions, he's also a wild rice farmer near his community.
He's been competing in trappers competitions since he was fourteen years old, Gerald has won over 40 king trapper titles and twice he won the world king trapper title, 2004 & 2005, these competitions include the flour packing, Gerald has carried over 1000 lbs several times, some of the other events are as follows: trap setting - portage event - animal, bird calls - axe throwing - log chopping - log throwing - canoe portage - log sawing (cross cut - swede saw) - snowshoe race - pole climbing - pulp cutting - jigging contest - tea boiling - bannock making and buckskin parade, just to name a few.
Gerald is an excellent hard worker and believes in doing the job right the first time. He has won many safety awards at his work place. He Continues to strive for the best in performance at home and at work.
